How do I choose the profile?
The PVC profiles ensure the fulfillment of all the functions typical for windows and doors: resistance, carrying capacity, maneuvering and stability, anti-burglary safety as well as safety against weather conditions. And last but not least thermal and sound insulation.
The functional and insulating requirements of doors and windows are varied, and profiles, in their turn, offer a variety of models adapted to the clients’ requests. The value of the profiles is given, not necessarily by the price, but by the savings it provides while being used. Sometimes, we tend to miss this important aspect, which might prove, in time, uneconomical (either you will have a bigger cost when it is time to pay the bills for the heating, or you will have to perform expensive maintenance and repairing works leading even to the replacement of the joinery).
Indifferent of the chosen profile, it is highly recommended to take into consideration the usage of the solbanc profile for the inferior part of the window (for the proper mounting of the exterior window sill made out of aluminium and the interior window sill).
It is one of the most important window functions. The bigger the constructive depth and the number of profile rooms, the more efficient the window gets.
The price is usually the most used criterion in choosing the profiles. Being a long-term investment, meant to protect your level of comfort, it is recommended to analyze all the active characteristics of the profiles alongside the operating costs, meaning the real value of the profile.
Overall width and the number of rooms
The number of rooms in a profile is highly important for the rigidity as well as the insulating or sound-proof capability. The bigger the overall width, the higher the insulating capacity. We must bear in mind the fact that at the same overall width, the contribution to the increase on insulation is significantly modified by adding up a supplementary room.
Whereas for the materials used in fabricating the profiles, you might have PVC profiles or the REHAU Geneo, made out of the innovative material RAU-FIPRO, which is a reinforced material. Due to this particular innovation, the characteristics of the latter are significantly superior to those of the majority of the existing profiles.
Thickness of the profile
Class A – The thickness of the profile’s walls can surpass 2,8 mm
Class B – The thickness of the profile’s walls can equal or can be lower than 2,8 mm.
The class A profiles are more resistant than the class B ones.
The glass packages
The dimensions of the allowed glass packages are very important. The greater the width, the better insulated the window is.
The thermal and sound proof insulation offered by a certain profile are a consequence of the general system characteristics, that correspond to the number of rooms, the class of the profile, the thickness of the allowed glass packages, even the number of the trimming rows or the material.
A high quality profile is a unitary one, being good at all the technical aspects.
While choosing the profile it is equally important to check whether the profile’s extended category matches the specificities you require. The entrance or the terrace doors need different types of profiles, unlike the windows which require a separate set of profiles. It is wrong from a technical point of view to use window profiles in order to fabricate doors, such an error leading, in time, to operational problems.
The sets are very important. They need to be resistant to usage, UV rays, frost-thaw cycles. As an advantage, you might consider applying a third row of sets, as well as the coextruded (factory fitted profile) ones.
